When you want the look of platinum but you may not have the budget to purchase it, then I strongly suggest you choose another member of its family which is palladium. I posted a past blog on this very nobel precious metal and I will continue posting updated blogs on this precious metal, because I love it and i've sold it to many of my jewelry customers with them loving it just as much as I do.
I have posted some "QUESTIONS & ANSWERS" below on palladium that have been asked of me, so I wanted to post this info here for others to read and learn from as well, and should you have any questions for me concerning palladium feel free to leave your questions and comments for me here and I will respond to you when I have the time to do so.
What is palladium?
Palladium is a rare and lustrous silvery-white metal that, together with platinum, rhodium, ruthenium, iridium and osmium, form the group of elements known as the platinum group of metals.
Why haven't I heard of palladium before?
Palladium was discovered by William Hyde Wollaston in 1803, but jewelry designers didn’t discover it until 1939. It had to play catch-up with other precious metals that were better known at the time. Today, it is becoming a luxury metal of choice for a growing number of fashion-forward jewelry designers and manufacturers, including Cynthia Zava, Todd Reed, Alishan, Vivienne Westwood, Sholdt, Novell, and newcomer Leigh Cameron.
Is palladium expensive?
In the current market, palladium is far less expensive than platinum and 18kt gold, which makes it a beautiful choice for your fine jewelry and a smart one for your wallet.
Does palladium jewelry stay white?
Palladium comes out of the mine white and stays that way. Gold requires rhodium plating to give it a silvery appearance, and needs occasional maintenance to keep it looking white. Palladium does not. In fact, palladium is one of the three most popular metals used to make white gold alloys.
Since palladium weighs less, is it weaker than heavier metals?
Palladium is stronger and more durable than either gold or silver. It is low density, which means it weighs less than platinum, but it is from the same family of precious metals and has the same strength.
What does it mean for a metal to be naturally white?
A naturally white metal gets its color and luster from nature. It requires no additives or special plating to achieve its bright silvery patina. Palladium and platinum are rare and naturally white precious metals. They require no special maintenance to stay that way.
